Suggested stops include Abbotsford, the extraordinary home of Sir Walter Scott, and Scott’s View, a favourite spot of the writer offering expansive views over the River Tweed and the Eildon Hills. You may wish to explore the majestic ruins of Melrose Abbey, said to be the burial place of Robert the Bruce’s heart, or visit Floors Castle, often described as the “gem of the Scottish Borders”. Depending on your interests, the day can also include Traquair House - Scotland’s oldest continuously inhabited home - or other historic estates and villages that bring the Borders’ history to life.
